VU Master students in Neurosciences invite you to join this Open Science movie night followed by a debate. We will watch a movie and engage in the discussion of various problems connected to the way of doing science and possible solutions to them.

In Silico: summary of the movie:

A young filmmaker sets out to document a brilliant neuroscientist who has become frustrated with his field's status quo. With time elapsing and millions of dollars on the line, In Silico explores an audacious 10-year quest to simulate the entire human brain on supercomputers. Along the way, it reveals the profound beauty of tiny mistakes and bold predictions - a controversial space where the scientific process meets ego, and where the lines between objectivity and ambition blur.

What to expect:

The movie ‘’In Silico’’ touches upon multiple controversial topics that could spark discussion. We aim with this movie night, not only to have fun and chill while watching the movie but to also engage in a small debate after it, expressing our opinions and trying to dissect what we watched on a collective level. The whole session will approximately take two and a half hours.

Drinks and snacks will be provided during the movie in order to make the experience even more pleasurable.

Open Science movie nights organized by students and for students started at the VU in 2022. They are supported by the VU Open Science Program. A movie night involves watching a movie and engaging in a discussion of related to the way of doing science, topics such as ethics, inclusion, diversity, interactions between science and society, and science communication. To make the event more enjoyable, there are usually snacks and drinks.
