Join us at the Library Lounge for a double film screening on James Baldwin!

First, we will watch Meeting the Man: James Baldwin in Paris (38m) by Terence Dixon:

Tense, combative, discursive: A meeting with James Baldwin doesn’t quite go according to plan for a group of presumptuous white filmmakers in this rarely seen, Paris-set short film. An illuminating snapshot of Baldwin’s intellectual worldview that bristles with friction and ideas.

After, we will watch I Am Not Your Negro (94m) by Raoul Peck:

Raoul Peck’s Oscar-nominated documentary is a journey into black history that connects the past of the Civil Rights movement to the present of #BlackLivesMatter. It is a film that questions black representation in Hollywood and beyond. And, ultimately, by confronting the deeper connections between the lives and assassination of these three leaders, Baldwin and Peck have produced a work that challenges the very definition of what America stands for.

The screening of both films will be preceded by a short intro by PPE.

Free snacks and drinks included!

This event is a cooperation between the Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) program and VU Library.
